Dog Rocks & Wabbit Wocks, Mt Alexander
Location: Dog Rocks and Wabbit Wocks, Mount Alexander
Leader: Peter Upton
Details: Mount Alexander in Central Victoria offers a good range of granite climbing for Melbourians, usually escaping on day trips. But this Club trip comes with a difference - an opportunity to climb at two of the best crags in the area over a weekend. We'll be visiting Dog Rocks and Wabbit Wocks on alternate days and camping nearby. This trip is a VCC and WVCC joint event. These two crags provide a mixture of classic granite slabs, aretes and cracks suitable for all levels of experience. Theres a variety of crack lines to get your jam on, whether you are new to crack climbing or after a challenge. Theres also slabs to slither up and a short but memorable arete to balance and slap your way up! There's some face climbing, and throw in a chimney and a corner for good measure. This trip will give you the opportunity to try a variety of climbing styles and maybe learn some new techniques or skills while youre at it. Climbing on granite always provides learning opportunities! This trip to Mt Alexander will provide climbing opportunities for all experience levels. Beginners are welcome on the trip, however beginner positions may be limited. It is essential to contact Peter prior to the trip to secure your place and get more information.   Photos: Trip Leader Peter Upton, Central Victorian Granite and Neil Monteith leading Braveheart (18) [Courtesy of Chockstone.org] [ More ]

CLIMBING WITH KIDS Djurite/Mt Arapiles
Location: Mount Arapiles
Leader: Adam Merrick
Details: Join the VCC & WVCC in an enjoyable 'long weekend' of family climbing at Arapiles on the Grand Final 'Long Weekend'. Camping at Upper Gums, just north of the Pines Campground at Arapiles. We will visit a progression of cliffs for younger children, as well as more challenging cliffs for older teens and parents to enjoy. The trip leader has experience with progressing kids climbing and is keen to assist parents in finding and enjoying a variety of sites well suited to family climbing. Climbing will be top roping. We will set these top ropes up with the assistance of families. Your own climbing equipment will need to be provided. The minimum gear required is a rock-climbing helmet, harness, sling and carabiner. (No bike helmets; we will have some spare rockclimbing helmets to share over the weekend) Climbing shoes are not essential for younger climbers, firm fitting sand shoes are fine. If you are interested in joining this trip, or would like some more information, please contact Adam Merrick, the Trip Leader. As numbers are strictly limited, it is essential that you contact the Trip Leader PRIOR TO THE TRIP to secure places on this popular trip. Priority will be given to VCC and WVCC members. This Annual Club Event is a joint VCC and WVCC trip. [ More ]

EOM @ Djurite/Araps (September)
Location: Djurite/Mount Arapiles
Leader: Paula Toal
Details: Warmer sunny weather, wild flowers and still good friction what better reason is there to visitMt Arapilesin early Spring? Well, the long weekend for the AFL Grand Final is another great reason to head to The Mount. The Cliffcare Working Bee is an even better reason. We will help move some more rocks for Walter for the Upper Central Gully Track Project. The benefits of participating in this type of Working Bee are obvious to any climber who has spent any time at Araps. Come along andcruise upthe nearby classicsand well-worn trade routes in the Organ Pipes or Central Gully Left in the sun. Or climb something new? The Watchtower slabs are perfect in fine weather at this time of year. Or head up into Central Gully right-hand side for some all day shade if the sun becomes too much! We will be camping in The Pines, close to the action. There is no better rock to fondle than the hard quartzite of Arapiles, so contact your Trip Leaders, Paula and Steve Toal,to register your interest. This trip is suitable for all abilities and new VCC members are encouraged to come along. These EOM@Djurite/Araps trips are intended for all levels of climbers, however Beginner spaces may be limited by the number of experienced leaders who come along. It is recommended that Beginners contact the Trip Leader as soon as possible. Please send through some details about your experience and climbing gear and hopefully we'll see you there. More details about the CliffCare Working Bee will be available soon on the VCC Facebook Page and on the new CliffCare Website. Blue Mountains with the Sydney Rockies
Location: Blue Mountains National Park, New South Wales
Leader: Dave Scarlett
Details:   The Sydney Rockies have invited the VCC to join them on a trip to the Blue Mountains over the 'extended' Melbourne Cup weekend. This is a great opportunity for a short 'best of tour' of the Blueys. They are providing free camping accommodation at a members well located property and some climbing buddies to take us to their favourite classic Blueys spots. This will include Mt Piddington, Bell Supercrag and others depending on the weather and the sun.   Maximum climbing will be possible because the members of the Sydney Rockies are going to help us with transport. So the plan is for us to fly into Sydney Airport. They will help as much as they can with transport from the airport or train stations. If you are interested in joining this inter club meet, please contact the VCC Trip Leader, Dave Scarlett, as soon as possible.     Photos:   Sunrise from Katoomba Dave Scarlett leading Johnny's Jalopies (18), Celebrity Crags. Mt Buffalo
Location: Mt Buffalo, Mt Buffalo National Park, VIC
Leader: Peter Upton
Details: Mt Buffalo offers fantastic climbing, particularly for experienced climbers. The plateau has a huge variety of single pitch climbs, as well as some of the best multi-pitch climbing in Victoria. The granite slabs and cracks make for thought provoking pitches. Mt Buffalo is the same distance from Melbourne as Mt Arapiles, but sees far less traffic due to the camping being much more restricted, and the plateau being covered in snow for 4 months of the year. Fortunately, we've got the camping covered with sites having been pre-booked and paid for, and we're pretty confident that it won't be snowing at this time of year. But never say never with an alpine environment! The granite of Mt Buffalo's Gorge and its multiple peaks offer a variety of slab, crack and face climbing, in both sport and trad routes. For those who are particularly keen, there are even multi-pitch routes more than twice the height of anything to be found at Arapiles! This is an intermediate to advanced level trip. Limited places are available, and prepayment for camping will be required to guarantee a space. Camping spaces are available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. The campsite booking gives participants the opportunity to make a longer weekend of the visit. It is essential that interested climbers contact Peter, the Trip Leader, as soon as possible, to join in this camping and climbing extravaganza. Extra campsites can be booked if you contact Peter early enough.   Photos: View of The Cathedral, Michael O'Reilly summiting The Cathedral and Trip Leader Peter Upton. [ More ]
