7/12/2013 The passing of John Ewbank.
The Australian climbing community has been shocked to learn of the passing away of John Ewbank on December 2, in New York as a result of tragic complications following emergency abdominal surgery earlier in the year.

John, the architect of the Australian Climbing Grading System, was instrumental in putting up many iconic climbs in this country that one contributor refers to as;

Summerday Valley - Trial Reopening VCC Trips
Location: Summerday Valley, Mt Stapylton
Leader: Michael O'Reilly
Details: The VCC has been invited by Parks Victoria to participate in a restricted trial reopening of climbing in Summerday Valley. We are running two Club Trips to Summerday Valley in the Mt Stapylton area. Participants will only be able to climb on two of the most popular cliffs: Back Wall and Wall of Fools.

These are Intermediate Trips with limited Beginner places. As this is a trial reopening for this year, the total number of participants on each trip will also be strictly limited. Trip Leaders: Michael O'Reilly and Ross Timms.

Contact Michael for more details or to register your interest. Prior booking is absolutely essential. Turning up on the day is not a possibility. [ More ]

11/01/2015Black Hill Day Trip
Location: Black Hill, near Kyneton.
Leader: Dan Miller (The Secretary!)
Details: What better way than slab climbing is there to improve your footwork and technique after the mindless laps of Burnley not looking at your feet! Not that there's anything wrong with improving your endurance on jugs... it's just that it won't help you at Black Hill. Come along and learn some technique and how to use your 'sticky rubber'.
The first Club Trip for 2015 is a day trip to the granite climbing area of Black Hill, near Kyneton. Dan Millar is the Trip Leader. The Club Secretary plans to show participants the climbs in the two areas around Milawa (17*) and Barefoot and Pregnant (19*) in the Upper Area of the Northern Group. Both areas offer great slab climbing.
Check out the available routes on the online Guide theCrag.

NOTE: Only 12 participants. [ More ]
