Mt Buffalo
Location: Mt Buffalo, Mt Buffalo National Park, VIC
Leader: Peter Upton
Details: Mt Buffalo offers fantastic climbing, particularly for experienced climbers. The plateau has a huge variety of single pitch climbs, as well as some of the best multi-pitch climbing in Victoria. The granite slabs and cracks make for thought provoking pitches. Mt Buffalo is the same distance from Melbourne as Mt Arapiles, but sees far less traffic due to the camping being much more restricted, and the plateau being covered in snow for 4 months of the year. Fortunately, we've got the camping covered with sites having been pre-booked and paid for, and we're pretty confident that it won't be snowing at this time of year. But never say never with an alpine environment! The granite of Mt Buffalo's Gorge and its multiple peaks offer a variety of slab, crack and face climbing, in both sport and trad routes. For those who are particularly keen, there are even multi-pitch routes more than twice the height of anything to be found at Arapiles! This is an intermediate to advanced level trip. Limited places are available, and prepayment for camping will be required to guarantee a space. Camping spaces are available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. The campsite booking gives participants the opportunity to make a longer weekend of the visit. It is essential that interested climbers contact Peter, the Trip Leader, as soon as possible, to join in this camping and climbing extravaganza. Extra campsites can be booked if you contact Peter early enough.   Photos: View of The Cathedral, Michael O'Reilly summiting The Cathedral and Trip Leader Peter Upton. [ More ]

End of the Month @ Djurite/Araps - November
Location: Mount Arapiles
Leader: Dave Scarlett
Details: Mt Arapiles at the end of spring? So much better for climbing at Arapiles than winter! The warmth in the sun and longer daylight hours make for a great weekend of climbing. There will be a Cliffcare Working Bee on Saturday morning. We will help move some more rocks for Walter for the Upper Central Gully Track Project on Saturday morning. The benefits of participating in this type of Working Bee are obvious to any climber who has spent any time at Araps. See the separate post on the VCC Events Page on our website for more details. Spring gives us a real mixture of weather and Arapiles provides us with a perfect range of cliffs to suit the conditions. You can get up earlier and enjoy the warming rays of the sun. Or you can climb late into the evening. You can also find plenty of shade in those cool gullies if needed. We will be camping in The Pines, close to the action. There is no better rock to fondle than the hard quartzite of Arapiles, so contact your Trip Leader, Dave Scarlett, to register your interest. These EOM@Djurite/Araps trips are intended for all levels of climbers, however Beginner spaces will be limited by the number of experienced leaders who come along. It is recommended that Beginners contact the Trip Leader as soon as possible. All intending participants must contact the Trip Leader prior to the trip. Click on the link at the end of this post to email the Trip Leader. Please send through some details about your experience and climbing gear and hopefully we'll see you there.   [ More ]
30/11/2019-9:00amCliffCare Working Bee - Upper Central Gully Walking Track
Location: Djurite/Mount Arapiles
Leader: Cameron Abraham
Details: There will be a CliffCare Working Bee on Saturday morning as part of the November EOM@Djurite/Arapiles Club trip. Cameron Abraham will be running the Working Bee side of things on the trip.   We will help move some more rocks for Walter for the Upper Central Gully Track Project on Saturday morning. The benefits of participating in this type of Working Bee are obvious to any climber who has spent any time at Araps.     Saturday Working Bee Details: Meet at the top of the Central Gully Track at 9:30am, or in The Pines Campground at 9:00am ready for the walk up the track. We will be moving some rocks from the top of the track down the track a reasonably short distance. This shouldn't take too long based on previous Working Bees. Many hands and a wheelbarrow make a difference! This is also a great warm-up for Saturdays climbing.   [ More ]

Djurite/Arapiles in December
Location: Djurite/Mount Arapiles
Leader: Kevin Lindorff
Details: There isn't a December EOM@Djurite/Araps trip, so come along on this early summer trip instead. In fact, going climbing sure beats Xmas shopping, work functions and just about anything else happening in December! December offers plenty of warmth all day, as well as longer daylight hours, and then you've got daylight savings. You will be able to climb till your hands can't even hold a RP! The new VCC President, Kevin Lindorff, is the Trip Leader. Here's your chance to talk to Kevin about his many FAs at Araps and in the Grampians. (He's usually too busy at the Nati Caf.) We will be camping in The Pines, close to the action. There is no better rock to fondle than the hard quartzite of Arapiles, so contact your Trip Leader, Kevin Lindorff, to register your interest. This trip is suitable for all levels of climbers, however Beginner spaces will be limited by the number of experienced leaders who come along. It is recommended that Beginners contact the Trip Leader as soon as possible. All intending participants must contact the trip leader prior to the trip. Please send through some details about your experience and climbing gear and hopefully well see you there. [ More ]
