26/09/2015Basic Technical Tree Climbing
Location: Yarra Bend Park, VIC
Leader: Philipp Hammes
Details: Recreational tree climbing is a fairly new thing in Australia. It has been around for a while in the US and German speaking countries. However just in our back-yard are some of the biggest trees in the world. The mountain ashes in the Yarra Ranges have recorded heights of over 90m with all of the specimen still growing (if they are still alive). We're taking it easy and will be getting up a little tree.
This is about learning basic SRT and preventing hurting yourself and the tree. Please bring your normal climbing gear except the rack.

Trip pre-requisites:
- You should be able to safely belay and abseil outdoors.
- You have the intermediate tree-climbing gear: harness, helmet, suitable footwear, several long slings, several screw gate carabiners, ascenders and cam-style descender (Petzl GriGri, RIG, I'D, Edelrid Eddy, isc D4).
- You must be a VCC member.

Suitable for beginners, experienced intermediates and advanced climbers.
Contact Philipp, the trip leader, to secure your place.
Beginner numbers may be limited and the trip has a limit of 8 climbers. [ More ]
10/10/2015Mountain Ash Climbing Day - Tree Hugging 3.0
Location: Yarra Ranges, VIC
Leader: Philipp Hammes
Details: We're getting high - naturally. Really high!
On some scouting trips we identified a couple of 60m to 70m Eucalyptus Regnans and if the weather plays along, we will spend several hours above ground to get 50m or higher. If it doesn't, we can pick smaller trees and enjoy the pubs and wineries around Healesville.

Trip pre-requisites:
- You are experienced with SRT climbing and climbed 25m trees before.
- You have the intermediate tree-climbing gear: harness, helmet, suitable footwear, several long slings, several screw gate carabiners, ascenders and a suitable descender.
- You must be a VCC member.

Suitable for experienced intermediates and advanced climbers.
Contact Philipp, the trip leader, to secure your place.
This trip is not for beginners and it has a limit of 8 climbers. [ More ]
