Here's a quick video of Col Climbing at the Apostles an area that Colin pretty much single handedly established for the benefit of us in the Top End. A great spot made possible by a great and humble man!

Tony, Col had finished bolting for the day and was heading home after checking how well the bolts had set. We will have to wait for the autopsy to establish the actual cause of death. We will let people know when the coroner reports on his findings.

I first climbed with Colin at Morialta in 1973 and have climbed with him on and off over the last 37 years. He was one of those rare breeds of people who has achieved great things but yet remained humble. Despite putting up huge numbers of new routes (including a significant number of great classics), he was prepared to to climb with anyone regardless of their climbing ability. Many a beginner over the years has enjoyed his mentoring, encouragement and absolute passion for climbing. You could not find a more genuine person. He was a great guy and his tragic death is an enormous loss to his friends and the climbing world in general.

Sadness.
I met Col the first time at Buffalo when he had his jaw wired shut after an accident. He couldn't talk so he went solo aiding for a week on the north wall. It was sport to go to the climbers look out in the morning and see whereabouts on the wall he was.
