Hi all,
I moved to Melbourne last year from Perth, and haven't come across too many people interested in alpine climbing. I'm sure you're out there though... Basically, I'd like to meet people of vaguely similar ability who have the gear and the inclination to go alpine climbing when conditions, work schedules and fitness allow (e.g. weekend trips to the Vic Alps, 10-20 day trips to NZ, occasional trips farther afield).
I guess the best way to go is the meet up, have a chat, go rockclimbing, hiking or on-piste skiing together and see how we get along and what our respective abilities will let us do. Even just a fit scrambling buddy would be great!
I've been climbing on-and-off for 8 years, and am currently leading around grade 22 (mostly in the gym). In previous years I've been climbing outdoors much more, redpointing 24/V6 and onsighting 21/WI3/M4 (e.g. Friday's Fool in The Remarkables). In alpine grades, I've soloed NZ grade 2+ mountains without any issues and am keen to get on some harder stuff (NZ 3-4) with the right partner (thinking The Footstool, Mt Cook, Mt Aspiring etc.).
Cheers,
Luke
PS. I'll be working near Bergen, Norway from mid-Jan to mid-Apr, so let me know if you'll be in the area and want to meet up for a climb (or ski)!
PPS. I also like ski touring - I have less experience there, but I do have a touring setup and can ski black terrain without being a danger to myself and others.
