Only if you are determined to twist it.
There is quite a difference between choosing a behaviour and choosing an innate characteristic.

Actually, now that I think about it, people don't choose their; height, weight, smell, name, pimples, wingnuttedness, bigtits, notits, tinydicks, or ginganess either. (is ginga a race?, is smallc--k a disability?) Whats with the heirachy of discrimination thing?

So you suggest that alcoholics and drug addicts should "just harden the fark up and get clean, or put up with the persecution.....cause they're making the choice, after all"

Your use of the word "probably" shows how much confidence you have in that statement. If a joke is actually clever rather than just stereotyping or poking fun at a minority, then it won't offend anyone.
>You don't really want me to think this stuff and then self-censor it.

Wrong, I want you to think it but not say it. However I know it won't happen because it would involve considering the impact of your words on others... and I know that in your world-view, any offense taken is entirely the fault of the person taking offence.
>Is it better to put on a nice smiley face and pretend, or to say what I like and you may judge me as you see fit?
The former, but I haven't seen any empathy or respect for others from you yet so I'm not holding my breath.
Don't get offended by my post, I'm just saying what I like.

Sigh... I only just got around to reading this topic. I lamely thought it was just another carrots topic and was ignoring it.

I am not making that suggestion.

Ah, Neil, you don't see the whole picture...
Someone starts a post about carrots, but aren't carrots orange, like the hair or redheads, who are called 'gingers' but lurking inside that is the fact that ginger is an anagram of nigger. But, if you use this insult in the wrong context someone will 'pop a cap in your ass'. Yet if you take it in the ass you must be gay, therefore a 'fag'. But this runs deeper still, as a fag is something you smoke and as has been proved 'smokers' are the most discriminated against people on the planet earth. But, earth is only the realm of the impure who will not go to heaven where the departed souls wander around with halos, or rings of light with a God who strikes people down with a bolt of lightning. Ipso facto it is that ring-bolt combination that is causing all of the trouble.
Simple really

As this thread is about carrots at Buffalo I would like to mention whales. There are too many whales and they murder plankton.
I would not want this thread deleted. In particular pensionerpowers post but there are a few other gems in there as well that illuminate different perspectives on many issues. Other climbers are the people you climb with. I've no problem for someone having a say.
Considering that Buffalo is a major crag in terms of height, style of climbing, numbers of routes and australian climbing history maybe a version 2 carrots at Buffalo thread could start? Numerous people here are active, have been active at the crag and have different opinions. Play Where's Waldo (where waldo may be from a miniority group, a majority group, a person experiencing vilification etc) is getting a bit boring as it turns towards self justification rather than arguement, all up for an arguement.

And you know what chocky will look like in that brave new world? I'll tell you; a whole site full of Kieran's humour!
"A Libran, you say? Why, what on earth does working in.......a library......have to do with things?"
Oh, hahahaha, oh my, Kieran! Your wit is truly a razor.......he said libran (as in the star-sign), and you pretended that he'd said librarian! Its as if you plucked the 'ria' from thin air........a magician of jest! Oh dear me, hahaha

Btw, the Good Doctor's last post was farking hilarious! If you're looking for tips, Kieran, maybe send him a PM.
I don't think it was offensive (I have trouble telling the difference).......but it did rely rather heavily on a lot of offensive build-up material.

You see, that was actually quite a good put-down. You didn't even call him names.

The real joke is that ODH couldn't resist the bait. I dangled it in there a while ago and he resisted for quite some time but finally he couldn't help himself. He even rewrote it and tried to explain it! Why?

It's the wittiest thing you've written on here anyway, so I'm glad to be baited if it leads to further improvements.
Actually, if you really did post that just to bait me, you're becoming a much more interesting chockstoner allround

My 2cents...
I was personally disappointed to hear that PB had extra bolts added as it would substantially detract from the nature of the climbing (slightly runout, exposed arete), it doesn't matter if you can skip clips to make it more bold, if that was the case why not grid bolt all routes and then if you want, solo them - with all due respect, that arguement makes no sense.
The character of Buffalo is, and always has been, bold routes, spiced with carrot bolts on which you must cautiously balance on a smear while reaching slowly into your chalk bag to take out a bolt plate, fiddle with said bolt plate (sometimes dropping it), wriggle it on and pray your smear holds while you fiddle a draw on and clip...you simply don't get that sensation from hangers or rings.
To place rings or hangers on classy slab routes at Buffalo (some routes do require them e.g., Dead Ringers) is a big step backwards and again will seriously detract from the alpine feel of the place (yes, even the Castle area) and the character of the routes.
And yes, I have personally placed hangers up there and will one day replace them with glue in s/s machine bolts :-P

A few people I know climbed PB over the last fortnight and all of them reported the same 5 bolts on the route I remembered, 4 shiny ones and the final, rusty, smaller one towards the top. Where are the other two bolts?

I did PB three days ago - and I didn't see 7 bolts on it.

I'm wondering if M9 was referring to the stubs of some older bolts, but if so I didn't notice them.
