Perhaps it was the static rope that tangled ... that would certainly explain the "explosion".

yeah having a quick look at those earlier posts again, have to say a lot of the stuff i said earlier was probably just talking crap.. i really don't know how much effect weak spots in a rope would have. was just suspicious about whether the large amounts of energy would still get taken up evenly all over the rope, but i guess thats what things like screamers do, you add a soft bit and it reduces the load on the rest of the system. so maybe should file previous comments in the "talking crap" basket.

sounds interesting must look it up. Are you going to use one length of rope for the jump? by that I mean as opposed to a few ropes tied together...
