not at all. they were also fundamentalist anti-drug (Dad stopped listening to the Beatles when they started taking drugs). and the only big bang theory came from 'How babies are made'.

Most climbers I know have pretty good life values, and none of them have openly espoused religious doctrine.
If there are climbers needing guidance then I am sure they will receive a revelation or blinding light without the aid of cyberspace.

Jesus was more into aid climbing, especially if it involves hard nailing!.

Yeah that would be why I mentioned *irrational* beliefs - in the face of zero evidence of the existence of God atheism is perfectly rational. Yes, I did visit your website and I read up on your 'Special God Moment' (your words, not mine) and I have to say that I agree with Douglas Adams on this issue: "Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?"

Yeah that was like so 400BC ago....... He was only into it briefly.... it only lasted 4 days and at the end of it a free climber was born again.....

I guess we find the idea of climbing for Christ/Allah/Jehovah etc just a bit, I dunno, exclusive. And missing the point. You climb because you climb and it's just climbing. Sometimes it is among the most profound experiences possible but you don't need to bring any God into it.

My comment really relates to this part of your post:

>Just a question if you have
>such a problem with it why have you visited the site?

Why did you provide the URL to the website if you didn't expect us to visit it?

Why did you provide the URL to the website if you didn't expect us to visit it?

Reason I provided it was for information for interested people. It's not that I hid the fact that it was a Christian group, but yet you visited the site then proceed to to complain about christianity.
I'm not forcing my faith on to anybody by providing this info, it was just to let people know about the group.
I don't plan on getting into a religous debate over who is right or who is wrong in regards to being a christian, because at the end of the day we will all have differing opions & most likely will never agree.

Peace

Be thankful for all the people taking the piss tonyj. They aren't your target audience anyway. By having more posts whatever their content this thread will stay visibile for longer. Those who are interest in your site and its content will not be dissuaded by such comments.

Australian's even if religous normally don't mix their religion with the rest of their life. You should know this and if you don't then you must socialise in a narrow circle. Such a reaction shouldn't be a surprise.

Furthermore some may see it as discrimatory having climbing groups dedicated towards christians. Are non christians really that hard to climb with?

Anyway..

Peace regardless...

I have not complained about "christianity" per se. What I find concerning, even confronting, is that one religious belief system will denigrate another belief system in the cheap and unsubstantiated way we can see demonstrated by the 'climbingforchrist' website.

From your wesite: "But the dark side of Buddhism is found in its temples and monasteries, and in its sacred paintings, symbols, and ceremonies. Many have never seen these ominous signs, while others (such as 386 million Buddhists in the world) have been blinded to the lies."

Well... you bagged me.

Well tonyj, i'm well impressed.. (sense mild sarcasm)

not only does your site bag those filthy buddhists, you have those cute little jesus dolls for sale in your online store..

I'm glad you have offered us your view..

but I will kindly refrain from joining you..

I hope you aren't dissapointed but I don't climb for christ, I climb for myself and for my own, very personal views that I won't share freely.
I guess I see climbing and religion as two very different things and I trust you will find most of the people frequenting this site are here not because they hold any particular set of beliefs but because they climb.

Peace,

Mattjr
