Please note there is a new climb on the 30 wall - a red route that goes at grade 24.

One of the foot holds on the green climb on the vertical wall is loose and needs tightening. It is the long flat foot hold towards the left hand side of the climb.

Has anyone thought of running a climbing comp at Burnley? It could be a good way of making funds that could either go to a specified charity, or even into buying new holds/ rubbish bins/ lighting for night climbing. I don't know how people would react to such an event or if it would be permitted, any ideas?

Yes, it has certainly been thought of. The atmosphere would be extremely awesome. As such, the matter has been suggested to Sport Climbing Australia for consideration. A comp would be an official event rather than random people having a bit of a climb, and as such insurance has to be handled differently. Sport Climbing Australia are pondering the matter.

Further to the point Tristan raised regarding fundraising, it is obviously the case that Burnley will require $$ from time to time for maintenance, replacement of old/damaged holds etc.

The Victorian Climbing Club will be handling the maintenance of the wall. You can help ensure a long successful life of the Burnley Project by joining the Victorian Climbing Club. Membership also gives you great discounts to gyms and climbing shops around Melbourne, discounts on guidebooks, access to club trips….

Dear climbers,

Throughout the course of yesterday and today, a contractor has been in attendance at Burnley, building up the level of the lilydale toppings surface to eliminate the trip hazard around the rubber matting areas. The surface has also been wetted and compacted. This should reduce the amount of dusty stuff getting spread onto the mats, as the surface is now more stable.

Thankyou to Parks Victoria for co-ordinating, and paying for (!) this work.

In other news Kangaroo Point cliffs will be closed while ply sheeting is installed and holds fixed so that safety is enhanced. Rubber matting will also be installed so that falling climbers will no longer hurt themselves. A unique self belay system will also be installed so that KPs reputation as the worlds largest indoor outdoor gym is safe for all time. ;))

Hi all,

The center foot hold of the green climb on the vertical wall is loose, and caution should be used when climbing this part of the route, as a fall will result in hitting red jugs on the way down.

Hold in question has been retightened. Due to it's design (long with small surface area) it may still move. If so we will need to re-evaluate...

Would it be possible to place some self tapping screws under each side of the hold so that it can't rotate?

It is an option (been already used before on other holds). But is a last resort IMO.
