The entries for this were due in last Friday - and we still haven't got any RMIT climbers entered! And only one from Monash! Come and help us defend the honour of the Victorian climbers guys :)

Last Friday? Oh crap.

That's ok, we can still take late entries - but the sooner the better. If you're planning to enter, let us know, so we can warn the Sports Centre guys.

It is possible that UNSW won't be sending anyone, but I assume you'd like the trophy to give to this year's winner. I heard a whisper that there may be some La Trobe climber's at Nowra this weekend. If so, any chance we could organise giving the trophy to you then?

What, no-one to defend the title?! But yeah, we'd like to get hold of the trophy either way (posting that thing would not be cheap), I'll email you about it to organise - unfortunately I'm not up there any more, but a few other La Trobers are.

Unfortunately no one was keen for the trek down to Melbourne. I couldn't go due to work and family stuff. I know it sux carolina, but if no one is interested, what can I do?

That's unfortunate, but not the end of the world. Hopefully UNSW will be represented next year.
Duncan, 2 days until your freedom arrives... If you're round on friday night, I might be having a farewell thingie. I head to the ACT on saturday.
owain.

hey duncan, shouldn't feel blamed...if there is no interest from the students then there simply isn't any...can't force that stuff, but it is a pity (the lack of interest).
Hey owain, when on Fri/where's the farewell?

Yeah, but it's still "sub-optimal". A bit of a reflection of club activity all round, hardly anyone seems to get outdoors anymore.

There's at least five entries from Melbourne Uni... should be fun.

Good ol' Club Mac but just thinking I might be climbing with one of the Latrobers next week in Sydney.

The deadline for entry to the climbing comp has been extended to Thursday this week. So the Monash and RMIT climbers have a bit more time to get organised! Bouldering has limited numbers, and the cutoff has already been reached, but I think a couple of the La Trobe guys might be willing to drop out and let people take their places if people from other Unis are really keen.
So far we've got competetitors from: Uni of Ballarat, Monash (only one though so far), Melbourne Uni, La Trobe Uni, Swinburne Uni, Queensland Uni of Technology, James Cook Uni, Adelaide Uni, University of Sydney, and University of Western Sydney.

The final rollcall includes: Adelaide Uni, Uni of Ballarat, Uni of Sydney, Uni of Western Sydney, QUT, James Cook Uni, Monash, Melbourne Uni, La Trobe Uni, Swinburne Uni of Technology, UTS, Macquarie Uni and RMIT. So not a bad showing :)
As part of the comp weekend, we're having a social function on Saturday night - the CRANKING SPANKIN SPARKLE FEST. Things will be starting at 7.30pm (on Saturday 10th July), after a hard day of Australian University Championships climbing. Everyone's welcome though - including all the chockstoners out there.
There will be yummy food (with plenty of vegetarian options), music, and photos and clips from the day of climbing will be showing. We'll also be showing Simon Mentz's short film Rams to the Slaughter (yes, we know it doesn't have that much to do with climbing, but it is amusing).
The location is the Melbourne Rowing Club - just a few minutes walk from Flinders St Station, on the banks of the Yarra with a brilliant view of the rest of the city. So come and socialise with other climbers, and people from Uni outdoor clubs from all over Australia! Tickets are selling for $15 - reserve beforehand and let us know that you want to come by emailing me or Alex (a.cohen@latrobe.edu.au).
ALSO - If anyone feels like volunteering to be a belayer/judge/marshal on Saturday for the climbing, we're still looking for a few more people. You'll get a free t-shirt, some food, and lots of positive karma.

The Uni Championships rockclimbing and bouldering was run this weekend - everything ran relatively smoothly, and it was a good (tiring!) weekend. Thanks again to all the people who volunteered to help out for the event (both beforehand and on the weekend), and to all the interstaters who came down for the comp.
