Clipping through the upper and lower tie-in points is not good practice, for the reasons why have a read of the UIAA's paper on the subject here http://www.theuiaa.org/upload_area/files/1/Karabiner_Breakings_when_using_a_Figure-of-eight.pdf
Note that the mode of failure discussed requires the attachment of some other rigid device to the carabiner such that it can generate torque on the gate, but regardless you're not gaining anything by doing it that way and you're artificially creating a new risk in some specific circumstances. |
