It pays to be very careful about simulclimbing in the mountains. While the rope might feel like it gives
extra security its pretty unusual to get good enough anchors to make it safer since if one climber falls he/
she will pull the others off more than likely. Also it hampers decision making since you are always
separated by your rope length and trying to keep up with each other. Its much safer to be soloing near
each other unroped in most cases (apart from ridge traverses where you can wind the rope in and out of
gendarmes). If its too hard to solo, and there aren't abundant bomber anchors, then pitch. |
