I've had a cheap sleeping bag for years that 'claimed' to be a -5 bag, and I've spent MANY cold nights in the Gramps during winter having to be fully clothed in my sleeping bag and still being cold.
I've now upgraded to a One Planet Sleeping Bag 800 loft 250grams, and my life has never been better! Slept in minus temperatures while in NZ, snow hitting the tent, and I was as snug as a bug in a rug!

Spend the money. and you'll notice a difference..
That's my opinion anyway.

Also the bag is only as good as what your sleeping on... if your in a super dooper sleeping bag, but not sleeping on a therma-rest (or equivalent) you loose majority of your warmth to the Earth. Wasting your money on the super bag you just bought.
