I was doing some mountaineering in Canada with a Suunto Observer, the time alarm worked well, it was suspended above my head in the tent. The altitude alarm seldom triggered. When researching the different Suunto brands, I think that there was one out there that had an adjustable volume control on the alarms, didn't follow it up though. I sleep lightly.

>You NEED calibratable altitude. It just won't work otherwise.
Each night the altimeter required slight adjustment plus/minus 15 m from the true altitude (provided by the topo map). The GPS on the other hand was always well outside this range. Always check that the altitude is correct before you break camp.
I also found that by observing the cloud formations and wind throughout the day, we were usually ready for the continual cold fronts that swept through.
