Having finally built myself a small woody i was wondering what peoples preferred holds were. I know a lot of people love making there own wooden holds which ive got a number of myself but was wondering who's plastic holds people preferred.
Now that uncarved block isn't around what are the best holds?
Are Metolious Worth the $?
has anyone used holds made from Urethane?
ive got a fair few holds at the moment but once i add a bit to the woody ill need to get a few more.
cheers

Talk of plastic holds is heresy for which the Boardlord will surely strike you down...

Try ringing around the gyms steve, as they sometimes try and off load old holds on the cheap, about half my holds have been bought this way. I dont have Metolius holds but lots of others type..my recomendations quality vs price are....
http://www.starholds.co.nz/ - not the best texture but pretty cheap and durable
http://www.climbingholds.com/ - very nice texture and cheap too, only problem is in US and shipping costs.
Both from outside the US but get them to ship via land/surface and it brings down the price.

Rise Holds, They are really good texture, well priced, and have some awesome shapes. They are based
in Adelaide, run by 2 climbers. Check out riseholds.com.au. I rate them!

I've always wondered and this seems an appropriate juncture to ask:
who makes those holds with the yin-yang symbol on them? I've seen them at quite a number of gyms over the years.

Holds are UncarvedBlock. The company was up for sale recently unfortunately, and I just tried their website and got a page not found. So looks like they are gone.
Edit - I obviously lost time by checking their website and was only the third response... I will have to try harder next time!

Metolious holds are excellent but pricey. First get cheaper holds and once you start to get a decent collection, if you can afford it, I suggest around 20% of your total collection should be these.
Also if you have the ability some Jarrah (Eucalyptus Marginata) holds are easy to create and are very rewarding to use. Wooden holds allow longer sessions as your skin doesn't get hammered like it does on plastic (or granite!)

Metolius Holds aren't that pricey if you buy in a set. My girlfriend bought me a 60 or 80 set for less than $300 delivered. After that I was sort of obliged to build a woody to house them.

yes just like when i bought 18 sheets of ply, thousands of t-nuts and stacks of holds I was obliged as well. I mean it would be wrong not to!

Hey,
I just bought a good collection of Rise Holds, They're great.., The shapes are quite imaginative, The inside and outside corners are good as are the ridges he now does.
Can definately recommend... (I also have 70 Metolious holds)
Cheers

Make your own wooden slopers! They're the most expensive to buy and the easiest to make, just grab a disk sander and go nuts. Also better on you skin.

70 Metolius holds! Sounds like heaven!!! Do you have any of their wooden range??? I've heard they're awesome, never seen them in Australia though. Metolius have so many different shapes its hard to go past them... price can be a turn off though. They are extrodinarily expensive!!!!!

Sydney indoor gym has a load of the Metolius woods. Awesome holds - The most skin friendly you'll ever see and the tension required to keep your feet on the polished wood jibs on a steep woody is unreal.
