All sounds fair enough. Who knows what this girl's caper was. Maybe she knew nothing or maybe it was her first day and she was super keen.

About the weight in the backpack. I believe a backpack should be packed distributing the weight evenly throughout as much as possible but I've never found that I've carried things with substantially differing weights. When I first carried a backpack I found that having the small pack attached to the back of the larger pack made the weight balance so out of wack (there's lots of packs and wacks here) I decided to wear the small pack on my front putting it on after the backpack went on the back. I began doing that and the others I was travelling with followed suit. We looked like right dorris's..... 6 of us walking around like that in Greece but now I see others doing it too. ......ok so maybe I reinvented the wheel!!! but I thought I made it up at the time and it was good having access to things in the front pack. It feels very comfortable and you put some heavier things in the front.
