What do people think of gortex in runners or light weight hiking shoes as opposed to the old fashioned full grain leather, ankle high scapas? In the past I wore my beefy boots everywhere hiking - great in a scree sloap or in wet weather. Now I'm mr lightweight, and can't wear the boots anyway as they don't offer enough cushioning. I'm walking in Tassie over christmas, and trying to work out whether to go with 300 gram sneakers, or upgrade to 350 gram sneakers with gortex and an aggressive tread. I'm thinking the later, but given they are so low cut, if I get wet will the gortex mean they never dry, and do they breath ok? Ado
