Everyone seems to love Sterling ropes. I have a Marathon Sterling half-rope and it is beautiful. So I invested in a Sterling 9.8mm Evolution... and it is the biggest piece of crap I have ever used. After about one week of use, taking a few small whips on it, it fuzzed up to the extreme and the core was showing. Compared to the other ropes I have bought over the years, this was the worst performing rope by an order of magnitude.

I got in touch with Sterling about it, and they requested I send the sample to them (in the states), which I did. They have responded, saying that the wear appears normal, and offered me 25% off a new rope. Which I find very disappointing (but then, I am easily disappointed :)

I am wondering whether anyone has had any negative experiences with Sterling ropes. The wealth of people out there raving about their Sterling ropes has me considering taking up the offer of a discount on another rope... but... fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice...
