Gas stoves work well in the snow
msr still recons the reactors faster than any of their other stoves!
theres is just a very audible difference when the canister starts to freeze up. you can hear that its not running at 100%.... then you heat the canister and it cranks up to 120%...
like brandan said, "hear it roar"!
where as a shellite stoves dont seem to be affected as much by colder temps.
Ive cooked many meals for one and 2 people in reactor... freakin awesome.
great simmering, just have to make sure its a 1 pot meal.
things i do to keep canister warm...
windpro- because the canisters will become sub-zero deg, just chuck the canister in the water.. even 2 degree water will warm the canister...
reactor- i use a screw lid nalgene container as a bowl, so like someone else said put a lil bit of water in the pot, get water warm and pour into the lid of container. stick the stove in the lid with water and its good to go :)
i recpon if its just for you, maybe 1 other, go the reactor, its worth it.
if your going to use it on picnics/car camping, go the windpro.
Timbo.
