I have used a shunt for toprope soloing for over 12 years. I use twin 9mm ropes. The shunt connects directly into a screwgate at my waist so there is no slack as I climb. If I fall or rest it is a matter of slumping onto the shunt. I do climb cautiously however - no dynos. The process can be a lonely one - halfway up a climb I have occasionally thought "what the fxxx am I doing here?", and nobody answers!
