Wall Wombat is right, the majority of slab climbing revolves around smearing, getting as much of the sole of the shoe in contact with the rock as possible(leaning back from the rock to aid this). Yes, there will be moments where edging is required, but if slabs are her thing a stiff edging shoe is not the solution. In my limited experience climbing slabs a shoe with a flat, flexible sole is most suitable.
Wearing an oversized shoe will mean sloppy footwork with no feeling of confidence.
