Torn rib muscle

I tore a muscle from its rib last w/e. Did the same thing just over a year ago, same side but more to the front. Bottom of the rib cage. I would have thought the first injury might have created a weakness but this one was further to the side. The first one effected my breathing. Extraordinarily painful. With both I was arched hard to the left on a side pull on a difficult route. The tear was on the inside, compressed, side of my chest.

A specialist doctor said that time is the only cure. Is there any training that can be done to strengthen this area or does a tear heal to make it stronger ?

Which intercostal layer did you rip?

Good luck with the healing process. Broken ribs are nothing compared to broken muscles between ribs.

I'd get a physio to look at your biomechanics and posture. They might then recommend a training program to improve both and stave off injury in that area.

No idea. I doubt that the doctor did either. What seemed strange was that the 2nd tear wasn't in the same spot, instead it was adjacent to the first. Perhaps it heals stronger, or once torn, it doesn't tear again ?
