I'm not quite sure where I stand on this one... at first my thoughts were that as long as it's subtle then its a token/reminder/memorial that doesn't do much harm and would surely be appreciated by the people affected. But I also reckon that there needs to be a line, eg It'd be pretty crap if after many years there is a plaque at the base of every 2nd climb on a mountain - not to mention depressing.
