I bet 90% of people who say this haven't done it or don't really mean it.. the worst sort of advice. Maybe it has worked in a few rare cases, but sounds like a good way to twist your ankle, and / or trip and fall head first, ending up a whole lot worse off than if you had just slid down the slab.

Seems most people think slabs are like cheese graters when you fall .. but I'd rather fall down a slab ... which tends to be very featureless, than a juggy wall or any thing. If a slab is steep enough to fall off, you don;t really get a cheese grater effect. I've fallen off a few and just slid down. Your toes might get a but hot, but you never get enough wieght on your hands to loose much or any skin.

A real fall happens so fast that there is no choice about how to fall, anyway.
