Grigris are extremely difficult for a left hander to use. For a multi user system such as a gym, things like the ATC are far more user friendly. I think the real issue is that the gyms need to more closely supervise people, particularly those new to belaying. When I say the gyms, I mean not just the staff, but the other users as well. If you see somone doing something unsafe, let a staff person know or go talk to the individual, the worst they can do is go tell you to "f*** off". More often than not beginners and also their climbing partners are very happy for the feed back.
