Hey anyone,
i am planning to go to Thailand for the month of sept. I know its the wet season, but want to go anyway. Plan on going from Phuket to Krabi. Climbing, partying and exploring. Wondering if anyone is heading there this time or has any advice.

cheers

I loved the wet season as it was a lot cooler, you get more seepage and sometimes the slabby (easier) things are a bit wet but it's all good, especially if you like cave / overhanging routes! We found seaside areas like 123 Wall etc quite nice with a bit of seabreeze, while areas like the inland areas of Koh Phi Phi were much more humid with less of a cooling wind. Our motto was climb early, retire by midday and start drinking by 4pm ;-)

We went last year middle of August. Was fine then hot and humid i heard that a bit later in the year it is cooler over night so yeah the early sesh would be the way, just watch out for the cheap Chang's the night before. There is a party every night somewhere at Rai lay

We went to Ao Nang, krabi in September 2007 with the view of getting a boat over to railay for the climbing. First day we got there and it was monsoonal rains and not worth climbing. The second time we went there the weather was mostly good but did get a bit of rain in the arvo and the boat ride back was a buzz. I'd recommend staying at Railay so that you can make the most of the good weather when it appears and climb and if you want to do the shopping/dining town things get a boat to krabi or ao nang.

Enjoy your trip.

Would love some feedback on recommended places to stay at railay for future reference.

I'm considering a trip for a couple of weeks in September. Mostly just to escape work, any climbing, exploring and partying would be a huge bonus though. Haven't fixed a destination yet, but Thailand is definitely a strong contender.

Stay at Paasook at Ton sai beach. Stayed there twice. It is cheap and basic
accommodation with really good food. :P. You can't book it, just turn up.

Are you wanting to go exploring around Krabi or further afield?

Advice
1. read this:

http://www.thailandguidebook.com/dos-and-donts-of-thailand.html

2. Phuket is crap

3. If you are going to get pissed make sure you have at least one sober mate to look after you.

4. Don't smoke anything illegal. If you obey the laws you won't get into trouble but, if you break them, there are lots of people waiting to pounce.

5. Except when you are at beach resorts, wear jeans or cargo pants and a shirt that covers your shoulders. If you don't look respectable to the locals, they probably won't treat you with much respect. Thailand is super appearance conscious.

Perhaps I should have qualified that: If you are going to smoke something illegal do it in a bar where they have payed off the local cops already. Don't do it down the beach.

Lao Liang is great - very laid back (island) may not operate in rainy season (send an email to check) and rest of time in ton sai - just too good all round.
