Just moved to town, looking for someone to climb with around the Orange / Bathurst area before i go mad in this flat desolate and cold place. Most of my gear is still back in QLD, but i have harness, shoes, a belay device and a little chalk. Prefer trad, lead around 21, boulder V7 and will second just about anything...

You're closer to Blackheath than everyone from Sydney who drives up each weekend. Go there or the Wolgan or Tarana.

Ya, gravity sent me a PM, he dragged me out to the local patches of rock and showed me around a bit...

Cheers for showing me that nice little bouldering spot up on Mt Canoblas (sp?), i'm sure i'll be up there again to work on a few things and get my strength back up...

this time will literally be an overnighter in Orange to pick someone up, then have to dash to Sydney. Limited rock time and I dont want to muck people around.

but please post any details of bouldering in/around Orange (or Bathurst, but another thread said that was very limited?) for the Chocknoscenti and other itinerants.
Google suggested Mt Canobolas.

Around Orange.

pine rocks - not easy to find but decent slabby high ball (for me) bouldering on some form of volcanic rock. also some climbs, overhangs, wide cracks but no top anchors. pretty small crag overall. west facing, only afternoons in winter. right next door to the Cadia valley gold mine.

random little gully - same rock, not very high at all, not too far away from PR, have never climbed there but found it when searching once. interesting scallops and some jugs if i remember. overhanging in places. no anchors at top. 1200 m high, in a gully so not for winter.

basalt wall - up from federal falls on towac way. 4 m high, 10 m long. slightly overhanging. up high on canobolas, overhanging wall is SW facing so cold in winter. easy access. 10 m off road.

granite boulders at Macquarie woods - very coarse. only go here if you want to bleed.

federal falls and the walls - both on towac way. both have never done it for me. have heard rock at the falls is sh!t and the walls are slabs.

apparently there is a slab out at Ophir. have never seen it. if you are feeling adventurous, there are some cliffs of some description up Coombing Creek over off Mt Macquarie. Never been there so the 2 k walk upstream and dodging of farmers bullets may not be worth it.

i will put together a mud map with some directions. put co-ordinates no here. if anyone is ever out this way then PM me.
