Some of the older / more popular areas were very polished when I was there two years ago. Not sure what it's like for the harder routes.

Stay on Tonsai (rather than Railey), and try to get accomodation at bungalows as far away as you can from the beach - because the overdeveloped beach front bars compete for customers by playing progressively louder bob marley / break beat / acid death trance to the very wee hours eg go to Jungle huts.

Be SURE to go deep water soloing and climbing on Tonsai Tower. It'll be the highlight of your trip. Joey, the Thai guy with long dreads who everybody knows (if he's still there) organises DWS trips from time to time. Highlight of my 2 months spent there.

Try the fried chicken in Ao Nang. Stay away from the lady boys.
