How difficult is it to hook up with other climbers in Thailand? Only climing to 19 on pointy end sport, struggle 22 on TR, not into trad as yet. Is it worth dropping through there for a few days stop over? What area is best for my lack of numbers???
Any info please?
Many Thanks
Ralph
Edit for trad comment.

At the Railay/Phr-Nang area it is VERY easy to pick up - climbing and non-climbing partners ;-)
There are literally hundreds of climbers there in peak season on any given day, and most are only there for a short time. There is also plenty of sport routes under grade 19, and with all the bolts it is easy to 'expand' your grades upwards anyway. They are all soft ticks!

chiang mai in northern thailand was pretty cool. and also easy to hook up with others. it is not as busy as krabi, but still easy to find some climbers.
there is no trad there....

The weather was shocking in southern Thailand three weeks ago and probably won't get much better before November. So both Ao Nang and Phi Phi will be dicey propositions for climbing, diving and boating if you are going soon. Chiang Mai might be a better option at the moment but I haven't been there so defintely get another opinion.
The Chiang Mai guidebook suggests lots of variety in terms of difficulty and steepness so it should suit the grades you have listed.
I'm also told Chiang Mai has great Wats and other buildings, markets etc to check out if the weather isn't good enough for climbing or other outdoorsy stuff.
Chok-dii khrab!
PS: Have any chockstoners been to Northern Thailand in the wet/hot seasons and know how bad the weather gets?

Thank you all for the tips. I heard from a 1/2 decent source that the krabi (?) area gets two monsoon seasons and the north gets three. I have to pass on just what that means but my trip is possible for late next month. It is felt I will be between the 2 monsoon seasons, in any case there is some kicking back to do.
Will most likely just hang about the shops there and see what turns up.
Thank you again

You'd never get dry though (perpetual damp)

the "rainy season" in Krabi as i experienced it last june and july was4- 6 hours of rain followed by 20 hours of dry. we did a nice 4 pitch climb above tonsai beach, got rain on the first pitch and by the third , the storm had passed.
if it's raining, take a nap, go swimming, have beer, stretch, decompress...
take your crappiest quickdraws and oldest locking biner cause the salt air does a job on them
