Off the top of my head here are some of the common weather patterns:

Frontal
- this is the most common, the passage of a cold front
- starts with NW wind, which is warm. Good in the east and south, can be rain in the
north. mixed in the west
- wind gets stronger as the front approaches from the W
- rain everywhere when the front hits, wind swings to the SW, it gets a lot colder (often
10 or more degrees in a couple of hours, bad news in the mountains)
- after the front there is a day or two of SW stream which may be clear or embedded
with unstable cells. Good in the north and east

High in the Bight
- large high pressure stuck off SA. Good clear weather everywhere. Get your arse to
Geryon. Can last up to a week if you are lucky. Usually finished by the passing of the
high over Tas, followed by a cold front

East Coast Low
- a low pressure sits off the east coast, driving rain and evil misty easterly weather
- shit on the east coast and hobart, but can be perfect in the west
- lasts until the low moves east
