We are looking to visit Thailand in October this year. We will have two kids (almost 5 and 2.5) with us - and would like to stay at a resort close to decent crags that is good for kids.
Any recommendations?

Green Climbers Home. Laos. Fly to Nakhon Phanom , then 30min bus ride. Very family friendly. The hard part would be booking a hut however that early in the season would be fine. Ask for camp 1. I have spent 10 weeks there cpmpletely illness free. Not many people can say that about Tonsai , even on the Phranang side. Couldnt ask for a more convenient place to climb with kids.

No worries , I wish I knew how to upload pics to show you where I would swim before breakfast or the cave 100m from my hut I would swim in after lunch! In Thailand Sunrise tropical resort is pretty awesome and very close to abc wall and phranang cave , both kid friendly crags. Good breakfast buffet included and good deals online.

Thanks again. Which side is nicer to stay on - east or west Railay? Less busy is better!
Thanks

East is cheaper, as it is mangrove swamp (wouldn't want to swim in it). A few of the places have pools to swim in.
West is fancy pants $$, but has the nice beach.
It takes about 3 mins max to walk from east to west Railay.
Not sure about less busy, as we stayed in Ton Sai.

Righto - so there’s nowhere quiet and secluded anywhere there? Went there in 2000 and suspect it’s changed a bit since.

Hi I was thinking of having a trip there about that time too. I haven’t been there for over 20 years so asked my Singapore climbing friends who go regularly a few questions. Got the following advice...,
“Dream Valley on Tonsai is very kid friendly and very cheap, like $ 40 for a beautiful aircon room or chalet next to the pool. No need to book in advance, just walk in. Better to do that anyway, because them Thai may surprise you with some kind of horrific building process, so if you book in advance you may be right next to a building site. Better just book on the spot, everything is empty at that time anyway
Railay beach is where most of the families hang out, but I personally find Tonsai beach way more fun, that's where all the climbers hang out, and where the cheap and good hotels and food is.“

sent you a PM - Railay West was great with two young kids in 2015, can't have changed that much.
Tonsai was being massively effected by construction of Tonsai Resort - which it looks like has been finished: http://www.tonsaibaykrabi.com/
