Forgot about this, very sorry. We did Deathwatch Beetle via the Lute but left the traverse until too high, building an anchor about 6-8m above the big ledge with the rap anchor chains. At that height, a bit left of the chains, there is a bucket-sized block balanced all ready to go and kill somebody on the ledge. We didn't feel comfortable with trundling it as we couldn't clear the base of the wall, but if anyone is up there with somebody at the bottom to clear the area, please for the love of god push the thing off if it hasn't already gone.

There's a heap of dangerous stuff around if you wander off the beaten path at Araps.

Yeah but this one is probably REALLY dangerous. It's above the route to the anchor, and could go at any time. We don't mind "loose" blocks so much, we climb at a quarry. This one was bloody alarming. In retrospect, maybe we should have tried to yell down to clear the base of the wall and pushed it off. A fingertip would probably do it.

Unfortunately there is a lot of terrible and loose rock above the first pitch between Deathwatch Beetle, and The Lute. Without the loose rock being marked it's going to be pretty hard to identify and unless it's positively identified I cannot see people spending the time to set up a clearing operation. Regardless, there wouldn't be a clearing operation during a peak period, there are too many people about.
It's just not possible to remove every poised block on the cliff. And some things are so big that attempting to remove them is not justifiable. They would cause terible damage and may destabilise other things.
It's definitely worth reporting things - a comment on TheCrag would be a good thing. Make people aware.
