So it's forecast to be 28 degrees on Sunday. I'm planning on climbing somewhere sport/trad, grades up to 20, day trip distance from Melbourne. Where's the best bet to stay in the shade?

I'm not a fan of Werribee Gorge when it gets above 25ish... Camels Hump, Ben Cairn, Mt Alex are much gooder in warmer weather.
EDIT - If you're heading to Ben Cairn take a shovel, broom and lots of water (10L) as it can be really mossy and dirty. Scrape the carpet of moss off, sweep the loose dirt off and then pour half the water down your climb of choice, let it dry and then repeat...

Thanks - I'll scrub Ben Cairn off the list then...!

Nightfall pinnacles at the You Yang's is a good area on a hot day. 5 good climbs in the 15-20 bracket with different orientations and the wind blowing through all day usually.

I second Nightfall Pinnacles. A good option in that range.
Don't go near Werribee Gorge once the temperature is above 20 -23! The morning sun makes that mudcake rock way too slippery. You may as well add some serious numbers to some of the grades if you insist on a visit! Always check the forecast before heading to Werribee at this time of the year. It's what makes it such a good option on a sunny winter's day.
Camels Hump is a good option in warmer weather.

Camels is THE hot weather crag for Melbourne. There is heaps of shaded routes and it stays cool for hours.

Bit late now but North Western Outcrops in the Youies are great in the warmer weather, bit of a walk and the routes are in the harder range, but shade and quiet.
