Has anyone climbed at Sawn Rock (NSW)? I saw a photo of this amazing looking cliff in a travel mag and looked it up. I know there's climbing around Mt Kaputar discussed on this forum but can't find anything on Sawn Rock in particular.

It's a major drawcard for tourists in the area - it really is worth visiting. Climbing? There are stacks of opportunities for similar climbing in the area in slightly more obscure areas so why trash a beautiful spot used so frequently by others?

Yeah no problems. I'm all for tourism. Who said anything about trashing? Are there similar hexagonal type columns else where in the area?

Hi
Just spent time out there climbing. Great trip. Climbing is banned on Sawn Rocks. Not a big ask by the NPWS, given the amount of other rock about the place.
Old school low profile climbing is the way to go out there. Sawn Rocks is the biggest tourist attraction for a long way around and the locals love it. Best keep off.

There's tons of amazing climbing at Kaputar - but sadly I don't remember seeing anything quite as unique and interesting as those hexagonals... there's tons of cool hexagonal boulders around that spot though - I'm sure no one would have any issues with you climbing those...
I can't imagine climbing with dozens tourists screeching "Wow what's he doing???" would be that appealing.
Those rocks are on the other side of the park though - it's a half hour drive around to the climbing area.

Also the Kaputar Campsite is FREE and AWESOME - hot showers, picnic areas with BBQs - unreal! It was just us and the roos when we visited in 2010.. not sure how it is nowadays.

Kaputar camping isn't free! We paid $5 each person (self service) at Easter.

thats cheap as they've just introduced a new scumbag tax....no I mean levy...to pay for those bastions of generosity such as Gina and Clive. I mean why the heck would you want to tax either of them folk when you can tax a national park camper. Clive and Gina never camp anywhere - so don't tax them.

Dang. Times are a changin.
Same price as the pines with a BBQ & hot shower is still generous for NPWS though... we were at Euroka in Glenbrook at $10 with neither of those on offer :(
