Defence have recently changed their bushfire management plan. As a result Beecroft Weapons Range will be closed to all day visitors (thatís everyone who comes to the gate) during a total fire ban. Registered campers are allowed to stay at Honeymoon Bay but canít go anywhere else on the peninsula because Defence close the internal roads (except for the road out).
The rationale behind the changes is that if the campsite is full, then the fire refuge at Honeymoon Bay is at capacity and therefore day visitors are not permitted on to the range.
Total fire bans are announced in the afternoon of the day before they come into force. To check if a Total Fire Ban will come into force visit the Rural Fire Service website via the following link.
