I am soon moving to Apia, Samoa and am having a hard time deciding whether to bring my climbing gear or not. I am actually from Brisbane so don't usually hang around this forum, though a friend of mine indicated there might be some climbers on here who might be living in / have some info on the area.
I will greatly appreciate any help as a year without climbing will bring on some serious withdrawals :/

Hey there - I'm not going to be much help to you....but I spent a week in Samoa with a mate who was living there. We toured around the main island (that Apia is on) and stayed in some of the most beautiful places....and there appeared to be a fair bit of rock around near the coast. But it's very dark recently volcanic-looking stuff and I think it's pretty soft (tho I'm no geologist!).
I did a bit of searching when I cam back to see if there is any climbing there but didn't come up with much. Will be interested to see how you go here cos it's a beautiful place and would be great to climb there too.

I was there for 3 weeks last year but can't remember any Crags inland, maybe around the cliffs in Savai'i are possible. (good surfing though.)

thanks guys, I will definitely be getting into the surfing scene while I'm there. I've been looking at some pictures and i can see the dark rock you refer too. It does look igneous, I bit like what I climb on the choss fest we call the the glass house mountains up here. Though I do love climbing them too :D
