we went this way. the canyon between liberty cap and broderick is definitely awesome, and on a 4+ hour walk its nice to use shortcuts. But ... on the section around the base of liberty cap, and especially into the start of the canyon, we encountered some very scrambly bits, in a few spots I remember we even considered breaking out the ropes to abseil/ascend when ledges dead-ended. in the end i think we managed without roping up, and quite possibly there is a smoother passage through here... but non-climbers may be much more offput by navigating this section than we were.
