Hi Wendy,

I did a road trip many years ago around the west of the states, here is my 10c worth.

If you have a car I wouldn't head to Wild Iris (high/snow/bears), Smith Rocks (walls/slabs/runouts) or the Enchanted Tower (middle of nowhere - every route the same) - just to far to drive. Owens River Gorge has next to no steep climbing and the few steep routes that are there are not great (5.12+). Red Rocks is a great crag close to Vegas if you like that sort of thing. But for me I would say head to Utah lots of varied and good climbing within a few hours between each crag.

American Folk is a beautiful area with good camping and nice limestone, lots of differnet aspects mean you can follow the sun/shade. Maple is cool and all the lose stuff should be gone by now - if you travel half way around the world maybe experience something different with the cobbles. Utah also has plenty of non-sport climbing options too. Utah is also very scenic and I found the Mormons to be very nice (though I was disappointed I didn't see black bicycles parked on every corner).

Just a word of warning - research the climate and ELEVATION of the areas. We were snowed in numerous times because we rock up to a crag (like Wild Iris) and not realise we were at about 9000 feet until we woke under a blanket of snow
