Surely someone out there has young kids who climb? No?

I know that on rockclimbing.com (where I go when I feel like stirring American climbers) the majority of climbers who have young kids who climb, buy cycling helmets for their kids to wear when they climb, as they are cheaper and kids heads grow pretty quickly. It saves having to fork out for an expensive climbing helmet every time junior's melon grows another size.

Well how come we ALL (well, the adult-age climbers amongst us who want to wear a helmet, anyway) - why don't we just use bicycle helmets, Mr Wombat? Far cheaper, and a greater array than proppa climbing helmets. No you gonna say that kids don't push their limits/don't place pro around blind corners 3 pitches above the deck...

What an advantage!; just grab it off the handlebars, instead of rummaging through all the outdoor gear, looking for the proppa helmet, or having to fork out cash the next time one rolls off the clifftop on a hot day while you coil the rope.

Helmets such as the BD Tracer (for climbers) seem smallish in surface area AND seem to be that thin sheet of plastic over polystyrene - hey I could go cycling in that! Will the Roads and Traffic Authority let me, anyway?

A climbing and biking helmet designed for children? Petzl Picchu
A cycling, climbing and paddling helmet? Salewa's Helium
Cycling, climbing, paddling, equestrian? Kong's Scarab

My prior climbing helmet didn't have an occipital dial ('push-and-rotate button'), while my MTB one did - this feature may be important. What's so special about the three multi-sport helmets listed above, but not the MET or Netti bicycle helmet for rock-climbing?

How come adult rock-climbers don't just use bicycle helmets?

Dude, in six short paragraphs you have made me sorry that I ever posted on this thread.

Here is one reason.

Great, that'll help with the sale! May I point out that the petzl picchu has an ABS shell, ie a hard shell, it is not the same construction as the meteor (which is more like your standard bike helmet).

Nonetheless, The meteor has a UIAA rating too - should we all be chucking our petzl helmets in the bin?

The helmet Lee's Mum was wearing was the old style Meteor. The new one's are a lot better.

Imagine the result if a helmet was not used...

As an aside; ... I wear a helmet nearly all the time when climbing.
Generally those I climb with do too.
If I had youngsters climbing with me, then I would be in the market for another helmet that would fit them.
I do hope you sell it, so that someone who currently does not have one, can benefit from using it.
