Don't know how stupid it was considering he has been climbing most of his life, he has honed his skills all over the world on some of the biggest and hardest free climbs (north america wall, zodiac - yosemite, La Rambla- Spain etc etc), training using the latest principles of strength and endurance recruitment for at least 15 years, he has roped climbed about 3-4 grades harder, and he was pretty familiar with the route (it's his home crag from what I understand) - sounds pretty calculated and considered if you ask me - probably about the most qualified person I could think of for such an undertaking.
