Werribee Gorge Access Update

Problems with access still exist at Werribee, but the latest arrangement should be more workable than the previous recommended route across the private land.

From the car park, you can now follow orange markers that take you slightly to the left (north) of the direct line across the first paddock. Then head back right following the fence line to the gate. From there, take the vehicle track over the second paddock to the park boundary.

PV are still trying to negotiate a permanent arrangement for access by vehicle and foot through the private land. While this process continues, please stick to the route with the orange markers.

When the drought breaks, the owner of the land will probably put in a new crop. If this happens, please stay out of the ploughed area.

The latest info from the railways is that the existing crossing will stay open when the faster trains start travelling to Ballarat.

As an alternative, you can walk in from near the Trestle Bridge. This is a shorter walk through nice bush, but it includes a bit of climbing up and down. You'll need to get a map!

The gully slopes are a bit prone to erosion so this way isn't a practical alternative to the paddocks for big numbers of people, but it makes a nice occasional change to the plod over the paddocks.
