OK guys, I get the picture. All I was trying to point out was that rock type really dictates the type of climb we are faced with, almost to the point of creating a grade chart for each rock type. eg. Grit, Granite, Trachyte, Sandstone (fresh deposited, salt deposited), Basalt, Limestone. They cannot be compared I reckon!
I would consider a slab to be granite. You have named technical face climbs above grade 25. Punks is not a slab! I also see what you're saying and you are right to point out finicky exceptions, but what grade charts try and do is group climbing difficulty into pidgeon holes, to the point where all climbs could be on different charts. They seem to aggregate when they appear at the same crag ie. same rock type. That's my point
fire away! I think this is a great discussion, something that the world climbing community should grab hold of and throttle. So....... a world grading system based on rock type?
