My first reaction when I heard that there would be no clear majority was bugger. Then I warmed to the independents who would hold the balance of power when I saw that at least two of them were reasonable individuals with the right motives. As time rolls on and I start seeing that Bob Katter is pushing for ethanol fuel because he wants cheaper fuel and just happens to represent 1/3 of Australia's sugar industry, and the likely onset of pork-barrelling in the independents' electorates I am beginning to wonder whether the altruisitic intentions of the independents was simply rhetoric masking what inevitably will be a list of personal demands. I hate to say it but I think that we should give the politicians 3 months to get together a list of meaningful progressive/conservative policies showing where Australia is heading then we have another election at the cost of $50 million. In the meantime we have a caretaker government. If we get another hung parliament then we go lord of the flies on this island.
