If you show up at ANY TrackCare day you'd know the answer to these questions, plus learn some great stonework skills, get a feed and actually feel like you're putting in, rather than take, take, take like 99% of climbers.
Have you been to Barden's Lookout? The climbers and Council did that work. We (the climbers) chose that site, as we have with Shipley. We get plenty of say in what gets done, and it's a great initiative/relationship. We'll be at Shipley for a few more years yet, then to Boronia.
There isn't heaps of money to go around. It would have been nice to get all the Blue Bags choppered in as we needed them, we know they're an eyesore, but the helicopter cost a fortune so all the stone was choppered in in one day. It was paid for by Council.
The Shipley Track is a heritage-listed track. There are many parties with interest in contributing to it's restoration. Some work has/will be done by Greencorp(?), Council staff and TrackCare.
Why did we choose the Shipley track? Well that track alone gets more complaints from bush walkers about climbers than any other area that climbers frequent; many, many phone calls about climbers activities at Shipley and the Glen. We wanted to have a presence in it's restoration and let everyone know that some climbers actually cared.
So the best thing that you can do is spread the work that the climbers are doing each time a walker stops by to have a chat, rather than suggesting how money should be spent. Better still show up and help
