I started when the i met a few people at a Bushwalking club. After a while the club asked us to leave as they were a bushwalking club and not a climbing club. Which was ok with us anyway as we got tired of lugging packs through the scrub.
Met a bloke called Andrew Penney and watched him bolt some now Bluies classics. He had a mate called Crunch and we kinda learnt together.(crunch got better and i didnt. He also became a Bluies colourful local identity i didnt) I cant remember being taught anything although i did experience the belay maching thing at Mt Boyce. My first rack was a hand me down rack of homemade Ewbank hexes. (Wish i still had them). Climbed in a Willans harness and still wince when i see one in pictures. (Mine was white a rare one even then)Wasnt any more comfy than the standard one.
Survived those days ok and still trying to climb.
