BTW: Like being any other nationality, being Tibetan is constituted by a lot more than religion. However, the Chinese have been working hard to crush every aspect of Tibetan identity in the name of opposing separatism. Quite a lot like what the missionaries did to Aboriginal Australia. The biggest difference is that the Chinese have gone hardest at cultural genocide of Tibetans, Uigurs and Mongols in the period when the rest of the world has been decolonizing or at least recognizing the rights of First Peoples.

I suggest that you meet some Tibetans if you get the opportunity and have a few beers with them. One thing they will readily tell you is that they like a drink. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you found that you actually liked them and can overlook the fact that they tend to be reverential about their spiritual leader, the same way Thai people are reverential about their King.
