The pressure point from the rock, the leverage of the rope at the bottom of the biner and the weld affected zone would have all contributed to the cracking. By itself without the contact point with the rock it might have been fine. I am in favour of having two clips on any anchor and when placing them make sure the swing free.
I am so glad you found this before someone died. That's a pretty serious crack. |
