It's no suprise that they only improved the road up until their main gate. Given the number of wombats that cross the road in the forested area beyond that it's probably better that the road beyond is narrow, windy and potholed to discourage hooning. Not that going slow is a sure fire way to avoid wombat carnage - on one trip in we had a wombat jump out of the foilage and stick his head underneat the front wheel. Our speed at the time was <30 km/h.
