I am training to be an instructor and I can say that I learnt more from some books than some of the courses I paid for so far! But the best learning method is to just get out and climb - preferably outdoors!

thanks :) i hadn't thought about reading up on technique, i did a little when i started rockclimng on the net, but didn't understand a lot of the jargon.. any books that you can recommend?

oh i'm pretty strong, just not tall enough for some of the holds... lol, 5ft9 is tall for the female average, but an absolute short@rse when it comes to climbing. it hink thats where i'm going to need the technique the most... plus, i dont want to become a muscle mary :P

>Hardrock CBD? I wasnt aware there was much technique required given the awkward way the routes are set. Altona... now theres a gym with some nice route setting. If I was gonna pay to get taught technique I'd want to be taught by the dude(s)/dudette(s) who set at Altona.

havn't had the pleasure of climbing at Altona yet :) starting to think a year membership at cbd might have been a bit premature....
