I’ve decided to move from being a climber to being a mountaineer but, wanting to do things differently (and being sort of scared of big mountains), I’ve decided not to bother with all the major peaks of the world but instead tick ascents of the world’s lowest mountains. After a successful ascent last month of Mt Waverley (157m, via the bus from Box Hill Station), my next peak, planned for the Melbourne Cup weekend, is Mt Martha. I will be starting at the Dava Hotel, early on the Saturday morning, well, probably Saturday afternoon after a counter lunch, before heading south along The Esplanade to Park Rd and then either walking or driving up Park Rd to the toilet block and hiking the final 400m to the summit.
If this climb is also successful (I am attempting the ascent solo and without the use of a cut lunch) I will be looking for other, not very high, mountains. Can people please pass on low peaks they know of to add to my list. Must be a mountain though (I mean, while Wheelers Hill might be higher than Mount Waverley, it isn’t a mountain is it?)
Thanks
