Just looking for some general info on dirtbagging around in NSW and VIctoria. Any places you recommend that would be great for bouldering with cheap/free camping. Do many Aussies wander around from spot to spot like the yanks do in Cali?? Is it possible to get to all these amazing spots by traveling with my thumb? Any advice would be great, thanks.

It is possible to hitch to most of the major crags but not always easy. A better approach is to start at one of the more popular areas such as Arapiles. People will be coming and going to other locations with space in their cars. Also, most of the gyms in Melbourne have notice boards where you can find others going your way. Not all crags are close to shops so you'll have to do some hitching to get supplies as well.
Camping is not always free but is normally pretty cheap. There is excellent bouldering at Arapiles and Stapylton in the Grampians. Both are easy to get to by hitching as they are common climbing destinations close to major roads.
Someone with more local knowledge can tell you about NSW.

The blue mountains (NSW) is hard to hitch around as it's essentially suburbs, you can train between stations there, or hook up with local climbers, bets to start in Blackheath.
In terms of getting to there, hitch into sydney and catch a train up.
To hitch, be young, cute, or have a rope on your pack. Good luck
