Tassie and now plans for NZ...you lucky sod.
March in the South Island generally has the most stable weather but by the same token it is generally crap for conditions (ie, most of the interesting stuff is cut off due to crevasses). It does depend on what you want to do though...there is probably some alpine rock that is still doable (eg Malte Brun plus others). You can get lucky though...a few years back we were there in early March and it dumped for a week and filled everything in nicely for access, after the avo danger dissipated that is.
